Outsourced SDRs for agencies.

The agency that wins new business for everyone else rarely has anyone whose whole job is winning its own. We ran a sales development engine for a London product studio that could be re-aimed as its priorities moved. What is different about agency new business, and what it took.

Agencies are built for pitching, not prospecting, for a structural reason: the people who could do it are billable, and new business is the thing that happens when a project ends. An outsourced function that runs whether or not the studio is busy is the fix, and it has to be able to change target when the studio changes its mind.

What is different about this market

  • The service lines move. Web this quarter, e-commerce the next, marketing when a client asks. The board and the messaging have to be re-aimed without starting again.
  • The buyer is a marketing director or a founder with a project in mind, and the timing signal is the project - a rebrand, a launch, a platform change, a new hire who wants to make a mark.
  • Credentials carry the opener. The shape of a client the agency has worked with is worth more than any adjective about the agency.
  • Meetings need the founder or a director in them. Agencies sell people; the rep opens the door and the principal walks through it.

What running it taught us

For NeverBland, a Certified B Corp digital product studio in Shoreditch, we built a sales development engine that could be re-aimed on demand as priorities moved between web, e-commerce and marketing work: more than forty fully qualified meetings across the service lines, £475,000 of pipeline from them, and several of the introductions are still clients years later. The client’s own words are on the case study.

Who gets called

Marketing directors, heads of digital, e-commerce leads and founders at companies with a project signal: a rebrand, a replatform, a funding round with a launch in it, a new senior marketer. Not every company with a website; the ones about to change theirs.

Can the engine switch service lines mid-engagement?

Yes. That is what it was built to do. The board is re-cut, the messaging rewritten from the new signal, and the cadence carries on; it does not restart from a blank page.

Do you work with agencies outside London?

Yes. The market is UK B2B; where the agency sits matters less than who it wants to work with.

Who takes the meetings?

Someone senior on your side. Agency buyers want to meet the people who will do the work, so the handover from our rep to your principal is agreed before the first meeting is booked.

The other markets we have sold into: B2B software and SaaS, healthcare and the NHS, technology firms and Microsoft partners, finance software, deep tech selling to enterprise and estate agents. All of them are on the sectors page.

Agency new business, without the founder doing it.

Fifteen minutes on which service line to point the engine at first.
