The challenge

NeverBland is not a narrow specialist chasing one type of lead. As a Certified B Corp digital product studio with over a decade of experience, they cover web development, e-commerce and full-scale digital marketing, working with everyone from purpose-led challenger brands to global names. That range is exactly what makes them hard to sell for. The business worth talking to about a web build looks nothing like the business worth talking to about an ongoing marketing retainer, and which one mattered most changed as NeverBland’s own commercial priorities did.

There was a second, quieter problem. NeverBland’s prospects are largely marketers, founders and brand teams, people who review agency pitches for a living and spot a templated one in a single line. A campaign that read like typical outbound would not get a reply from this audience. It would get deleted.

The approach

  1. Signal-led targeting, not a static list

Agency new business has a timing problem most outbound ignores. A brand is only really in-market for a web rebuild, an e-commerce replatform or a new marketing partner around a handful of real triggers: a funding round, a leadership hire, a rebrand, a site visibly overdue an overhaul, or an incumbent agency contract approaching renewal. Caption prioritised accounts against those signals rather than working a flat list, and layered NeverBland’s own shifting focus on top of it, rebuilding the target list, messaging and qualifying criteria each time the priority moved.

  2. A buying committee, not a single inbox

A website or e-commerce platform decision is rarely made by one person, so accounts were multi-threaded from the start: the founder or CEO as economic buyer, a Head of Digital or E-commerce as technical evaluator, a Marketing Director as day-to-day champion. Headcount flexed to match the weight of that effort, four or more SDRs deployed at once during the busiest stages and scaled back the moment demand eased, so NeverBland only ever carried the prospecting capacity a given quarter genuinely needed.

  3. Outreach held to NeverBland’s own bar

Every touch was built around specific, relevant proof, the right piece of NeverBland’s own work for that prospect’s sector, and run as a coordinated sequence across call, email and LinkedIn rather than a single blast. Caption held the relationship to the same standard internally: direct, ongoing contact with NeverBland’s CEO, COO and Digital Marketing Director meant feedback on what was and was not landing came back in days rather than months, and every qualified meeting was checked against that bar before it reached the calendar.

The results

  • £475k of pipeline generated.
  • 40+ fully qualified meetings booked over the course of the campaign.
  • A meaningful share of those meetings became clients NeverBland still works with today.
  • Four or more SDRs deployed, scaled to match demand rather than fixed at the outset.
  • Qualified pipeline delivered across web development, e-commerce, full-scale digital marketing and combined engagements.
  • Target accounts prioritised against real buying signals and multi-threaded across the full buying committee rather than chased through a single contact.
  • Sustained, direct contact with NeverBland’s CEO, COO and Digital Marketing Director throughout.

Why this is proof, not just a result

B Corp certification is not awarded for meeting expectations. It is awarded for exceeding them, against an independent standard most businesses never attempt. A sales partner running a generic, set-once campaign would not have matched that bar, and it would not have survived contact with NeverBland’s own audience either. What made the difference was working the way NeverBland works: collaboratively, and without cutting corners.

It is also why the honest objections that define agency new business, “we already have an agency” and “we are not looking right now”, did not end the conversation. Signal-led timing and a long-enough view meant a quiet account today could be the right meeting in a quarter’s time, once the trigger that made them ready actually arrived.

The clearest evidence is not the meeting count, though. It is retention. The accounts still working with NeverBland today did not start as names pulled from a list. They started as businesses Caption judged worth the time before NeverBland had ever heard of them.

Caption have been a partner to our new business effort rather than a supplier of meetings. As our priorities moved between web, e-commerce and marketing work, they rebuilt the targeting and the messaging each time and kept the quality of the conversations up. They put a rep on our own domain, ran their own qualification calls before anything reached us, and chased prospects on our behalf when we needed them to. Several of the introductions they made are clients of ours today.
