New categories
Selling a category buyers cannot name yet.
When there is no budget line for what you sell, outbound has a different first job: getting the buyer to agree the problem is real. How that built $12m+ of pipeline for a GEO agency, and how to run it in any new category.

To sell something buyers do not yet have a name or a budget for, lead with evidence that the problem exists, not with what your product does. A buyer has to believe they have the problem before they will judge whether you solve it. Make the case with data they can check, tell the same story on every channel, and aim at the people with the most to lose if the shift is real.
Why it is the hard version
Selling into an established category is a targeting and execution problem: the buyer has accepted the need and is choosing a supplier. Selling into a new one is a belief problem. Most outbound is built for the first case. It names the product, lists the features and asks for the meeting, which lands on a buyer who does not yet think they need any of it.
How it was done for Trustifyer
Trustifyer helps brands and executives stay visible and trusted inside AI answer engines - generative engine optimisation, or GEO. A few years ago it was not a budget line.
Teach the problem first.
Outreach opened with the shift itself - zero-click searches, buyers starting their research in AI tools - before it said anything about what Trustifyer does about it.
Use the figures the market already accepts.
The case was built on published research rather than claims: most marketers plan to invest in GEO, and far fewer have started. That gap is the conversation.
One story across three channels.
Call, email and LinkedIn ran as one campaign, so a prospect who saw a message, took a call and read a follow-up met one consistent argument, not three pitches.
Reach both buyers.
The offer covers company reputation and an executive’s personal visibility, so outreach went to marketing and communications leaders and to the executives with their own name on the line. A single narrow profile would have missed half the market.
What it produced
More than $12m of qualified pipeline so far, and still growing, across company-level and executive-level buyers, built inside the window where the market agrees the change is coming but most of it has not acted.
If you are selling something new
- Lead with the change in the buyer’s world, and the evidence for it, before your product.
- Pick figures a sceptic can look up. In a new category, credibility is the product until the meeting.
- Hold one narrative across every channel; inconsistency reads as uncertainty.
- Find who has most at stake personally, not only the department that would hold the budget.
- Expect the first meetings to be part education. Measure whether buyers repeat the problem back in their own words.
How an engagement like this runs is on what we do, and the practical detail is in the help centre.
Fifteen minutes. No pitch.
If this describes where you are, fifteen minutes on a call will tell you what outbound would return on your market.
